In French with English Subtitles
Synopsis
The opening film of Berlin’s Generation 14Plus section, “Rookies,” marks another exciting collaboration from Demaiziére and Teurlai, the creative minds behind “Reset,” a captivating ballet documentary featuring renowned choreographer Benjamin Millepied (best known for his work in Aronofsky’s “Black Swan”), and the acclaimed Netflix series “Move,” which showcased the journeys of leading choreographers.
In “Rookies” (also known as “Allons Enfants”), the narrative unfolds within the walls of a prestigious Parisian high school, embarking on a daring venture: the integration of a group of exceptionally talented hip-hop dancers hailing from working-class neighborhoods and diverse backgrounds. Their mission? To break the cycle of academic underachievement through the transformative power of dance.

“Pretty irresistible as a doc, shaking off any trappings of the form with its visual kineticism”— Moveable Feast
“ The film is visually as energizing as the art form it echoes. Upbeat and rousing … moving – and often harrowing”– Screen Daily
