France – 82 min – Scope, 5.1 – Romance – In French with English Subtitles Paris, a winter evening. Antoine (Aurélien Gabrielli), has made up his mind to escape to the coast on the first morning train. With only a few euros in his pocket, he does not have enough to pay for his ticket. An entire night lies before him to collect the required sum for his adventure, as his wanderings lead him to unexpected events, dictated by accidental encounters, accompanied by his awkwardness and dissatisfaction. Shot in black and white on the streets of Paris, first time director Tommy Weber makes the most of a convincing cast (the surprising Aurélien Gabrielli) in a film which was inspired by François Truffaut’s classic film The 400 Blows. The title of Sleepless Night In Paris is taken from a song by Petulia Clark (The Night is Endless) in a film whose style sparks our imagination and reminds us of the Nouvelle Vague, a movement which revolutionized cinematic conventions that remain fresh and potent today.
